2009 Tristar PROjections Series 2

2009 Tristar PROjections Series 2

We have one hobby box of 2009 Tristar PROjections Series 2 up today. If you recall, the series one review of PROjections had a beautiful Obak Tim Beckham inside. Series 2 yields this possibility as well but instead of Tim Beckham this time its Matt Wieters gracing the Obak inserts. Overall I had a good time busting series one and was really looking forward to busting in to series 2. So let’s get this party going shall we?

Product Information including checklists can be found here.

You can’t see from the above scan but there are only 1800 boxes produced – I received box #0674. 5 cards per pack – 20 packs per box & 9 hits per box. Yes, 9 hits per box.

The base cards of this product are solid. They could use some minor tweaks IMO but overall I think it is a pretty solid design. I am showing a David Freese card here – he is a hometown guy and it was neat to pull his card.

Up next we’ll take a look at the numbered parallels. All the parallels I pulled were of the GREEN variation, which are #’d to 50.

In case you didn’t notice, the bars running across the bottom of the photo and up the left side is where the  green is located.  In the above base card, these bars are silver.

Let’s take a look at the AUTO’s I pulled next. I pulled two from this box with one being numbered to 25. Can you spot the difference?

The second auto that I pulled:

In case you missed it, the bottom auto is #’d to only 25 copies. It also uses GOLD bars on the front instead of the standard silver.

Last but not least we have our Taylor Made hit. This version contains a dual swatch and is labeled NY’s Future Stars.

IMO this card could use a little work. It is rather plain and with the plain swatches it is just rather blah in my eyes.  Overall however, I feel Tristar is on the correct path with PROjections.  The base cards are very solid and well done and the quality control on both boxes I have opened has been excellent.  I think if Tristar concentrates on strong photography and makes some minor tweaks to their designs they could really make some noise with PROjections. What do you guys think?

In case you haven’t noticed, I have not given you “full results” of this bust as normal. If your really observant, then you noticed I only showed 2 Auto’s and there were 4 advertised on the box.  Remember when I did the Tristar TNA Knockouts bust and I had 6 packs left over? Well, same thing here. I have 6 packs that I did not open for the review. WHY? Well, I pulled everything I needed to give you a full review of cards to expect out of this series and decided to give the unopened packs away – TO YOU. That’s right – I’m giving away unopened sponsored packs of cards that SHOULD CONTAIN at least 2 Auto’s to you the collector that makes this hobby what it is.

See if those bully’s in Texas will do that for you when they get sponsored product for “review.” Oh sure they may give away cards here and there but do they give away EVERY sponsored card they receive, like they SHOULD? I think we all know the answer to that….. mmmm hmmmmm Beckett Grading Services  + Ebay = $$$$$

Anyway as I said before I will be giving this entire lot away. Instead of holding a seperate contest for this bust – I have just decided to add it to the Boxbusters Birthday Giveaway. So now instead of having 5 winners – we will have at least 6 – maybe more. So if you haven’t entered yet – get your guess in before its too late!!
